Penncross Ranch Information

Penncross Ranch is a well known breeding facility of superior Paint Horses and Quarter Horses.  Penncross Ranch was established in 1986 by Penny Cates,  and is operated year-round basis by Penny Cates and Kenneth Davidson.  Penncross Ranch is located near Kilgore in the piney woods of Northeast Texas.  Honesty, hard work and the commitment to breed for the utmost in quality are the cornerstones of our business.

 We are quite proud of Penncross Ranch and our facilities:

• Insulated barn which houses the stallions and show horses.
• Mare motel boasts 46 14'x16' stalls with solid 4' walls of tongue & groove lumber.
• Covered round pen.
• 9 runs for those horses needing more freedom to move around.
• 3 covered paddocks for smaller groups of horses.
• 4 large pastures with woods for shelter and shade.
• Exercise paddock for weanlings or mares with foals.  

Each barn is equipped with timed fly spray system to maintain a stress free environment.  We feed freshly crimped oats and irrigated alfalfa hay from New Mexico twice daily and of course fresh water and minerals are always available.

The breeding room is conveniently located in the mare motel.  This eliminates as much stress as possible on the mare and foal during this critical time.  During breeding, the foal is confined in a separate stanchion next to the mare but can still reach out to her for comfort and security.  All breeding is done by artificial insemination.

Several stallions, representing some of the finest breeding in both the Paint Horse and the Quarter Horse industries, stand at Penncross Ranch.  Continually producing quality halter and performance horses in both Paints and Quarters will always be one of our main goals.  We are quite proud of each and every stallion we stand and we have faith that each of our stallions will live up to our expectations.   Please see for yourself on our Stallions page!
